Guvna B - The Narrow Road - "Allo mate", the ever so familiar phrase used by the UK's most distinctive gospel MC, enters the music industry arena like a true pro with his debut album - The Narrow Road.
Real name Isaac Borquaye, steps to the mic once again to deliver another serving of gospel truth, encouragement, inspiration, youth related topics and much needed humour to wash it all down with.
The Narrow Road is Guvna's second CD release after his Looking Out The Window - ep, which was released mid 2006, and builds on his already firm foundation which stems from his faith in Christ.
Background
To those of you not familiar with Guvna B his style of music is gospel garage\grime. Both hardcore garage\grime fans and non (g\g) fans will enjoy this well balanced collection of songs.
Guvna calls on a number of talented musicians, poets, vocalists and MCs to help him articulate what God has placed on his heart and to educate a generation drowning in a sea of lies and deception.
Strong mellow tunes...
The Narrow starts strong and finishes in the same way. It is no way a one dimensional project it has some thought provoking mellow tracks which you could easily press play and go.
Mellow tracks include: In The Rain (featuring JayEss, Michaela: the birth of a poet and Marsha Garrick), This Is For The Fans, Modern Midian (featuring Deborah Ogunyemi ), I Need You (featuring Elizabeth Lubega), New Jerusalem (featuring MOBO winners G-Force and Victoria Akintola ), Looking Out The Window (featuring Victizzle and Mark Starr), What I'm Looking For (featuring Mark Starr).
Each of these tracks could hold their own as a single and each featured person delivers a heart felt message which enhances the track further.
Some thing also for the Garage/Grime fans...
For those of you who like more of the garage\grime\rap\hip hop then Guvna has not disappointed, tracks include: Allo Mate, The Narrow Road, I Have A Dream (featuring Nick Brewer) Pray As U Go (featuring Stealth), Welcome to London Cipher (featuring Mighty, TP, Gabz, Victizzle, Faith Child, Serene, Commission and Triple O), Put It Down (featuring TP and Icie), Kingdom Skank and the infectious dance floor filler STANDAAAD!!!
Stand outs...
The album will easily have a couple dozens of plays in your music player within a day or two.
The Narrow Road stand out tracks are: Kingdom Skank which is certain to be the album's first single (not including Standard).
JimmyJames produces the funky track which is sure to get you off your seat bussin the Kingdom Skank (instructional dance video available via Guvna B MySpace).
Welcome To London Cipher is sure to be a hit with those who are into the grime scene, admittly it got me bopping my head, lol. This track shows how street crime affects all corners of England's capital and not all youth are about trouble but want to see positive change which is communicated well in this toe tapping song.
The Narrow Road is a fun song with clever word play and seductive vocals encouraging you to wanna learn the words and sing along. The song is a blunt track telling people "don't be stupid!" choose God who "shows more love than cupid"
FINAL RECOMMENDATION
In all honesty I could write a paragraph on each track and still not fully communicate how refreshing it is to have an album of this quality grace my music players (yeah that's right the album isn't restricted to a single music player!!!).
My advice to you is - go cop the album and prepare yourself to witness the making of Kingdom Skankers! GLORY!!!!
